Ueber die Verwendung dieser Zahlungen ist mir das A[ktions-] C[omité d[es] Z[ionisten-]C[ongresses] keine Rechenschaft zu geben verpflichtet.                             Hochachtungsvoll Jac[obus] Kann in Firma L[issa] & K[ann].   Dieses Verlangen bedeutet keineswegs eine Verschlechterung der Kann’schen Be= dingungen, denn er wird diese Mehrma= tone jederzeit auf das Geschäft überwälzen können. Es wird dann ein Leichtes sein, entsprechend bessere Bedingungen zu erzielen, weil wir dann jede nothwendige Nachhilfe haben. Eine Verpflichtung er= wächst für ihn selbstverständlich nur, wenn die Sache zu Stande kommt. Mache das rasch mit ihm ab, damit ich auch ungehindert weiter operiren kann. Herzlich Dein Benjamin… Dir brauche ich wol nicht erst zu sagen, dass erstens Alles, was dem A[ktions-]C[omité] zugeht, von diesem  für die für die Sache verwendet

This request certainly does not mean any damage to Kann’s interests, for he will be able to write off this additional matone against the transaction. It will then be an easy thing to obtain correspondingly better conditions, because we shall have every necessary assistance. Naturally, any obligation for him will arise only if the thing materializes.

 

Arrange this with him quickly, so that I too can continue to operate unhindered.

 

I surely don’t need to tell you that, in the first place, the A.C. uses everything that comes to it for the cause, and that,

מחצית האחוז מן הסכום הנומינלי של כל עִסקה אחרת שאני או הפירמה שלי נעשה עם ממשלת טורקיה במישרין או בעקיפין, לבד או בשיתוף עם אחרים, ובמזומן ביום השלמת העסקה. אין הוועד־הפועל של הקונגרס הציוני מחויב למסור לי דין וחשבון על אופן השימוש בתשלומים הללו.

הדרישה הזאת אין פירושה משום הרעת התנאים שהעמיד קאן; שהרי בתוספת הזאת לדמי התיווך [במקור: Mehrmatone] יוכל לחייב את העִסקה. אחרי כן יקל להשיג תנאים טובים יותר, שהרי נוכל לקבל את כל העזרה הדרושה. ההתחייבות תחול כמובן רק אם יצא העניין אל הפועל.
