Und wir stellten da ein schönes Bild, gleichsam das Rütli des Bakschisch! Viele Hände mit der Fläche nach oben streckten sich mir

“May God hear you,” said Izzet piously. “We are your partisans [on your side].” 

 

Or did he say participants?

 

Ibrahim repeated, with a happy smile and a low bow:

 

“‘Yes, we two are your partisans!”

 

And since I was just holding Izzet’s hand with my right hand, I gave Ibrahim my left hand. And we presented a pretty picture, a baksheesh Rütli meeting, as it were!

 איבּרָהים חזר על הדברים בחיוך של אושר ובקידה עמוקה: 

"!Oui, nous deux sommes vos partisans" ("כן, אנו שנינו חסידים שלך!").

ובעוד אני אוחז את ידו של איבּרָהים בידי הימנית, הושטתי לאיזֶט את ידי השמאלית. והנה עמדנו ניצבים כבציור יפה, שבועת Rütli של הבאקשיש!

עוד הרבה ידיים הושטו אלי כשכפותיהן כלפי מעלה, עד שהגעתי לשער של יילדיז־קיוסק.
