Gestern war ich beim Portugiesen

Paraty. Er hatte noch keine Antwort

von seiner Regierung.

(xx) Er will mir, wenn ich mich

entschliessen sollte, nach Lissabon

zu fahren, Empfehlungen für

den Ministerpräsidenten u. Marine

(Colonien) Minister mitgeben.

Ueber Nacht erwog ich den Plan,

hinzufahren. Ich telephonirte dem

Hofrath Jettel vom Min[isterium] des Auswärtigen,

dass ich ihn heute sprechen möchte[.]

If you don't breathe a word of this to anybody, perhaps we shall be able to expose one or the other of the shameful speculations which you have told me about.

Mr. Soursouk asks 25 francs per dunam, which, according to our reports, isn’t worth more than 15 to 18 francs.

If you wish to buy, we shall withdraw. If you do not, state this plainly to Mr. S., so that we may buy at a better price.

Yesterday I went to see Paraty the Portuguese. He still had no answer from his government.

If I should decide to go to Lisbon, he wants to give me introductions to the Prime Minister and the Minister of the Navy (Colonies).

Overnight I weighed the idea of going there. I telephoned Privy Councillor Jettel of the Foreign Ministry and told him that I wanted to see him today.
