Er gab mir aber auch einen grossartigen Beweis seines Vertrauens, indem er die geheimsten Dinge der deutschen Politik mit mir erörterte und rückhaltlos über die Absichten des Kaisers sprach. Er begann damit, dass er sagte, die deutsche Regierung hätte sich in Konstantinopel erkundigt, wie man sich dort zur zionistischen Bewegung stelle u. die Auskunft

The conversation was downright grandiose, highly political. If I were to publish it today, it would be a sensation for all of Europe. The Grand Duke conversed with me in the most candid manner about all of world politics, and from each of his kindly words there shone benevolence toward me and good will for the cause. But he also gave me a magnificent demonstration of his confidence by discussing with me the most secret German political matters and speaking unreservedly about the intentions of the Kaiser.

 

He began by saying that the German government had made inquiries in Constantinople about the attitude there toward the Zionist movement and had been informed that the Sultan viewed our cause with favor. 

השיחה היתה ממש נהדרת, פוליטיקה גבוהה. אילו פרסמתי אותה, היתה היום סנסציה בשביל כל אירופה. הגרוֹסהֶרצוֹג דיבר אתי באורח חופשי ביותר על הפוליטיקה הכלל־עולמית, ועל כל דיבור נדיב שיצא מפיו היה שרוי רצון־טוב כלפַּי ונכונות לעזור לעניין. הוא אף הוכיח לי בעליל את נאמנותו, בכך שדן אתי בעניינים הסודיים ביותר של הפוליטיקה הגרמנית ודיבר בלי־רתיעה על כוונותיו של הקיסר.

 

הוא פתח ואמר שהממשלה הגרמנית התעניינה בקושטא מה העמדה שם כלפי התנועה הציונית, ונאמר לה שהסולטאן רואה בעין יפה את ענייננו.
