Gaster ist hier. Ich erzählte ihm

diese Thatsachen u. will mit ihm

den Beginn der Campagne gegen

die englischen Hochbänker besprechen

Die Reichen u. „Grossen in Israel“ laden

eigentlich eine furchtbare Verantwortung

auf sich, indem sie mich im Stiche lassen.

Ich bin ein sehr brauchbares Instrument

für die Heimkehr der Juden — u. sie lassen

mich in unfruchtbaren Anstrengungen

müde werden. Vielleicht gehe ich vorüber,

ohne das Werk gesichert zu haben,

u. dann ist es verloren.

Hechler ist wieder da, erzählt, der

Grossherzog v. Baden habe ihn gut

aufgenommen, als er von mir u. der

„Welt“ sprach. Der Grossherzog rieth,

Gaster is here. I told him the above facts and plan to discuss with him the beginning of the campaign against the English big bankers.

The rich and the "Great in Israel” are actually incurring a fearsome responsibility by leaving me in the lurch. I am a very serviceable instrument for the return of the Jews—and they let me wear myself out in fruitless exertions. Perhaps I shall pass without having secured the project, and then it will be lost.

Hechler is here again and reports that the Grand Duke of Baden reacted favorably when he spoke about me and the Welt.

גאסטֶר כאן. סיפרתי לו את הדברים הללו ואני רוצה להתייעץ אתו על המערכה נגד "הבנקאים הגדולים" האנגלים.

העשירים ו״הגדולים בישראל״ [במקור: die Grossen in Israel] בעצם מעמיסים על כתפיהם אחריות נוראה בזה שהם זונחים אותי. אני כלי מועיל מאוד בשביל שיבת היהודים לארצם — והם נותנים לי להתייגע במאמצים עקרים. ייתכן שאיעלם בלי לבצר את המפעל, ואז הוא אבוד.
