Die provisorische Subscription auf eine Bank, deren (xx) Details noch gar nicht bekannt sind, ist eigent= lich nichts Anderes als die Herstellung eines volksthümlichen Emissions=Syn= dicats. Flectere superos si nequeo Acheronta movebo. Da die grossen Financiers zögern, rufen wir gleich von vornherein die kleinen Börsen auf. Die Sache hat, wenn sie gelingt, das Gute, dass wir nicht in der Hand von ein paar (xx) Hochbänkern sind. Die Bank gehört dann dem Congress. Dieser Bankfeldzug hat auch etwas Kriegsmässiges in seinen Ueber= gängen. Work on the Bank has begun.

 

What I am doing there is another feat, an innovation in financial techniques. עבודת הבנק החלה.

שוב אני עושה כאן מעשה־להטים, חידוש פיננסי־טכני. ההחתמה הארעית על [מניות של] בנק שהפרטים עליו עדיין אינם ידועים כלל, אינה אלא הקמתו של סינדיקט הנפקה עממי. Flectere superos si nequeo Acheronta movebo (אניע שאול־תחתיות אם לא אוכל להניע את העליונים).

באשר בעלי הממון הגדולים מהססים, מראש אנו קוראים ומעלים את בעלי הארנקים הקטנים. הטוב שבעניין, אם יצלח, שאיננו נתונים בידיהם של כמה בנקאים גדולים. הבנק יהיה שייך אפוא לקונגרס.

המערכה הזאת על הבנק, על שלביה, יש בה גם משהו הדומה למלחמה. כוונות עמומות, תוכנית ברורה יותר, הכרזות ראשוניות, גיוס, הקמת עמדות קדמיות, היתקלויות ראשונות, קרב – כל אלה מתערבבים זה בזה בסרבול נוראי או בקלילות מגוחכת.
