wickier wenn ich den Berichten meines getreuen de Haas glauben darf. In Deutschland habe ich nur Gegner. Die Russen sehen theilnehmend zu, wie ich mich abrackere, aber keiner hilft mit. In Oestreich, besonders in Wien habe ich ein paar Anhänger. Hievon sind die Uninteressirten völlig unthätig, die Anderen, die Thätigen wollen durch den Redacteur der N[euen] Fr[eien] Pr[esse] vorwärtskommen. Hinzu kommt die Verleumdungs= campagne, deren Leiter der brave Scheid zu sein scheint. Die Juden, denen es gut geht, sind alle meine Gegner. So dass ich anfange das Recht zu haben, der grösste aller Anti= semiten zu sein. Oft denke ich an Levysohns Wort: „Die, denen Sie helfen wollen, werden Sie zunächst recht empfindlich ans Kreuz schlagen.“

Added to this is the slander campaign, whose leader appears to be the worthy Scheid.

So that I am beginning to have the right to be the biggest of all anti-Semites.

 

I often think of Levysohn’s words: “Those whom you want to help will start by nailing you rather painfully to the cross."

אם אכן אאמין לדיווחיו של דֶה האז הנאמן שלי. בגרמניה יש לי רק מתנגדים. הרוסים עוקבים אחרי באהדה ורואים כיצד כלים כוחותי, ואולם אף אחד אינו מטה שכם. 

באוסטריה, בעיקר בווינה, יש לי כמה תומכים. האדישים שבהם אינם עושים דבר, האחרים, הפעילים, מבקשים לעצמם קידום בעזרת העורך של .N.Fr.Pr.

ועל כל אלה נוסף המסע הזה של עלילת השקר, שבראשה עומד כנראה שייד הטוב. היהודים שמצבם טוב — כולם מתנגדים שלי.

וכך אני חש יותר ויותר זכאי להיות הגדול שבאנטישמים.

לעתים קרובות אני נזכר בדבריו של לֶוויזוֹן: "אלה שאתה רוצה לעזור להם, יקדימו לצלוב אותך בלי רחמים".
