Es soll schon in diesen Kleidern etwas Symbolisches enthalten sein: Ihr beginnt jetzt ein neues Leben! — Und wir werden dafür sorgen, daß schon auf den Schiffen durch Ge­bete, populäre Vorträge, Belehrungen über den Zweck des Unternehmens, hygienische Vor= schriften für die neuen Wohn­orte, Anleitungen zur künftigen Arbeit, eine ernste und fest­liche Stimmung erhalten werde. — Denn das gelobte Land ist das Land der Arbeit. — Drüben aber wird jedes Schiff von den Spitzen unserer Behörden feierlich empfangen werden. — Ohne thörichten Jubel, denn das gelobte Land muß erst noch er­obert werden. — Aber schon sollen diese armen Menschen se­hen, daß sie hier zu Hause sind. — Unsere Bekleidungsindustrie für Auswanderer wird, wie Sie sich denken können, nicht planlos produciren. — Wir werden durch das centralisirte Netz unserer Agenturen — die unsere politische Administration vorstellen, gegenüber den autono­men Ortsgruppen — immer rechtzeitig die Zahl, den Ankunfts­tag und die Bedürfniße der Auswanderer kennen und für sie vor= sorgen. — In dieser planvollen Leitung einer Industrie ist der schwache Anfang des Versuches enthalten, die Productions= krisen zu vermeiden. — Wir werden auf allen Gebieten, wo die Society als Industrieller auftritt, so vorgehen. — Keines= wegs wollen wir aber die freien Unternehmungen mit unserer Übermacht erdrücken. — Wir sind nur dort Collecti= visten, wo es die ungeheueren Schwierigkeiten der Aufgabe  

There shall be something symbolic about these very clothes: You are starting a new life now! And we shall see to it that on the boats a serious and festive mood is maintained through prayers, popular lectures, information regarding the purpose of the undertaking, hygienic advice for the new places of residence, and directions for their future labors. For the Promised Land is the land of labor. On the other side, each ship will be given a festive reception by the heads of our government. Without fatuous jubilation, for the Promised Land will yet have to be won. But right from the outset these poor people shall see that they are at home there.

 

As you can imagine, our clothing industry for emigrants will not be aimless in its production. Through a centralized network of agencies—which constitute our political administration, as opposed to the autonomous Local Groups—we shall always know in time the number of emigrants, their day of arrival, and their requirements, and we shall make provision for them. In this systematic management of an industry there are the faint beginnings of an attempt to avoid production crises. This is how we shall proceed in all areas where the Society appears as an industrialist. But on no account do we want to crush private enterprise with our superior power. We shall be collectivists only in those instances where the enormous difficulties of the task require it. In general, we want to cherish and protect the individual and his rights. 

יש בבגדים הללו משהו סמלי: הנה אתם יוצאים עכשיו לחיים חדשים! ואנו נדאג להשרות אווירה רצינית וחגיגית כבר באוניות, באמצעות תפילות, הרצאות עממיות, הסברה על מטרת המפעל. יינתנו גם הוראות בנוגע להיגיינה במקומות המגורים החדשים והסברים על העבודה העתידית. כי הארץ המובטחת היא ארץ־העבודה. ראשי הממשל יקבלו שָם כל אונייה בחגיגיות. לא בתרועות אוויליות, שהרי הארץ המובטחת עדיין צריכה להיכבש, אבל האנשים המסכנים הללו חשוב שירגישו מיד שבביתם הם.

אתם יכולים לתאר לעצמכם שתעשיית הבגדים שלנו בשביל היוצאים לא תפעל בלי תוכנית. באמצעות הרשת הריכוזית של סוכנויותינו, המייצגות את ההנהלה הפוליטית שלנו לפני הקבוצות המקומיות, נדע תמיד מבעוד מועד את מספר היוצאים, את יום הגעתם ואת צורכיהם, ונדאג להם מראש. בניהול שיטתי כזה של תעשייה טמונה הראשית, הרָפָה אמנם, של ניסיון למנוע משברי ייצור. בכל התחומים שה־Society תפעל בהם כתעשיין ננהג בדרך הזאת. אבל בשום אופן אין אנו רוצים לדכא את היוזמות החופשיות על־ידי הכוח העדיף שלנו. נהיה קולֶקטיביסטים רק בעניינים שבהם הקשיים העצומים של המשימה יצריכו זאת. ככלל, רוצים אנו לטפח את הפרט ולהגן עליו ועל זכויותיו.
